FAVORITE SCRIPTURE

FAVORITE SCRIPTURE:
"And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the power of the Lamb of God,
that it descended upon the saints of the church of the Lamb,
and upon the covenant people of the Lord,
who were scattered upon all the face of the earth;
and they were armed with righteousness
and with the power of God in great glory."

OCEAN'S 10

JANUARY 19, 2015

TURBACO
Turbaco Ward, Los Alpes Stake
Companion:  Elder Montoya

Hey everyone!

Glad to hear that all is going well! This was another busy week and was kind of a blur and I don't have too much to say!

So on Thursday we had our interviews with president and the assistants and all that stuff. It went good and I learned a lot. I have definitely changed a lot since I came here, I feel, but in a good way!  After the interviews we went and ate Subway in a mall close by.  How great!

On Saturday we had to go back into Cartagena for a meeting for the Trainers and Trainees.  President, the assistants, and the zone leaders talked to us about being an effective missionary beginning with the things in the house such as studies.  It was good overall!   Also during the interviews with the assistants we worked and focused a lot on finding the needs of the investigators and others we are teaching.

Elder Montoya and I decided we needed to improve on this so we tried it out in the first appointment we had when we got back from the interviews. We had an appointment with a less active named Maria.  Her partner, Jose (not married) is also a less active with their daughter and infant son.   So we got there and only Maria was there so we start talking with her and applying the things we learned and she just opens up to us so many things about how Jose struggles with alcohol and how she wants to return to church.  She commented to us about some goals she put to attend church this year and eventually go to the temple. We were able to apply the gospel to her personal needs and she commited to church.  At first as a missionary, when someone says that they will go to chuch, you always feel a little reluctant because almost everyone says they will go and almost nobody does haha.  But then Sunday came and she came to church with her daughter and everything!  Then later on Sunday we passed by again and were able to talk with Jose again and help him set some goals with Maria to get married.  We, as missionaries, have so much potential if we just apply the teachings to ourselves.  The gospel really is for everyone, we just have to follow the spirit to know how to apply it!

Today we are in Cartagena again, but this time with our whole zone.  We came here last night with the missionaries from Turbaco and Arjona who are far away and have to travel to get into Cartagena.  We all slept in the house of our Zone leaders.

Our Zone sleepover - 10 Missionaries sleeping wall to wall!
There were 10 missionaries and we had only 2 twin matresses and 2 more air matresses. Also we only had 2 fans, but I'm used to the heat now and don't sweat so much. Nevertheless, it was a pretty fun and funny night!  And now we are sending the informs and writing and then we are all going to get on a cheeba (a tour bus) and we are going to go see a lot of the touristy sights and take pictures for Like 4 hours.  I think it will be a pretty sweet day!  I'll send pictures in the afternoon if we have time!

Well things are going good here. I hope you all have a great and safe week! Take care!
